In the picture, why does Chatham get mid-rise buildings and Strood (Medway City Estate) high rise? Typical... :)

Comments submitted on the town centre designs. I'd prefer something like 4 storey housing, with commercial space for cafes and restaurants etc on the ground floor. Most of the proposals (with the exception of the 'avenues') have limited visible transport - I think the need to transition from Medway's car-centric culture is an argument that needs to be stated and won, not ignored. Building any of those things without doing that will lead to lots of cars spreading over the public space. For the residential roads, there should be children playing football and adults sitting out chatting (and keeping an eye on the kids). And bicycle infrastructure and parking throughout. The new bridge from Gun Wharf to Medway City Estate needs to start at high level to facilitate bike and pedestrian traffic so people can bike or walk to work there. And, finally, plans for Chatham need to take sea level rise into account. Initially, I'd reopen the Brook as a water feature in the Solomons Road etc area - in the long term this will become an inlet from the Medway - that's more like 2100 than 2050, but getting expensive to stop in the 2050 frame. Initially that's a Grain and Cliffe problem, but managing water will be an increasing issue.

Are they going with Chatham town centre for city status, as refusal has always stated there is no recognised town centre as required for city status. As to papa johns crash, there is dash cam footage from the car involved on facebook. Having watched it, still not sure why It was doing a U turn and just kept going round, through the central barriers and into the shop.
