I have two comments to make re Lauren’s review of what she has done. A. She speaks of MidKent College as being in her constituency, it’s not, it is sited in Gillingham, the other campus being in Maidstone, neither of which is Rochester or Chatham. B. She cites Brompton Barracks as being in her constituency (bringing military homes back from private ownership), once again, it is not in Rochester or Chatham, it is within the borders of Gillingham. Gillingham and Rainham are VERY well served by our wonderfully, present, MP.
Hi Sheila. I'm afraid the electoral boundaries in this area are pretty strange and that Lauren is correct. It makes no logical sense, but the boundary for Rochester and Strood runs all of the way up to Gillingham Pier Asda, including the universities, MidKent College, Brompton, St Mary's Island, most of the Great Lines, Chatham town centre, and lots more. In a rational world, it really shouldn't, but that is where the line is!
Ah the joys of using the very old local election boundaries for new boundaries. Both those sites were in the much maligned River ward which went all the way from St Mary's Island, through Brompton Barracks, and one half of Chatham High Street along to Rochester Bridge!
