Editor’s note: As we enter Spring, our thoughts inevitably drift to the outdoors. Rainham gardener Stuart Bourne recently set up his own gardening newsletter here on Substack, so we invited him to write for us on what we might need to be doing in our gardens this time of year, the kind of plants that suit our part of the world, and to talk about one of his favourite Medway green spaces.

Medway’s gardens emerge into Spring

by Stuart Bourne

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first gardening article for Local Authority.

These articles aim to show you how you can turn your underused garden into a green haven from the ever-busy world, how you can start enjoying growing your own fruit and vegetables, and how you can become inspired by Medway’s gardens and parks. I will share hints and tips on what you should be doing in your garden over the coming months, highlight some interesting plants that will be on show now, and showcase the local parks and green spaces in Medway.
