"They likely could have saved more and antagonised fewer people by closing a couple of libraries or something". What a very unfortunate comment . Of course, libraries are a statutory service and also useful for those without broadband to complete their Universal Credit declarations etc. The last 15 years have seen too many interferences in information provision including, alarmingly, only 4 Full Council meetings a year . No longer can members of the public read hard copies of newspapers in libraries and I sincerely hope the present Council resists any attempts to reduce hours or interfere with our already depleted library service.
Hi Bryan - It wasn't a serious suggestion. More of a glib comment that it would likely result in less anger than cutting the Christmas lights, for better or worse. Libraries are obviously incredibly valuable to many parts of our communities.
Thanks for this comment. "Burning of the Books" by Richard Ovenden should be read by all who have regard for our libraries. Full marks to Medway Council for encouraging children to visit libraries as a substitute for the great switch on
I cannot think of a decision that would get more publicity-if the current administration, led by Vince Maple wanted to be known as the man who cancelled Xmas then they have made the correct decision, personally I don’t think they should have made it .
Not sure how the 'brownfield' site in Twydall was so designated. It's one of the green spaces, many of which have been built on, included in the origional design when the estate was built. Never had anything built on it before. Hope they are not considering all parks in Medway as brownfield now.
Neither are, are they? The Petham Green one is the Lennox Wood site which has been a wasteland since it burnt down, and the Woodlands Road one is the old Age UK building, no?
This is the fourth time Ed has been listening to Romance Is Boring by Los Campesinos!, while writing this newsletter.
It's a great album, Andrew.
(Do you have a spreadsheet?)
I actually own it, it is great - but for those of us who look to you as a guiding light for new music, we need more from you
