A break from the usual Local Authority schedule today as we bring you the recording from our recent Medway Question Time event at MidKent College.
Medway Question Time is an opportunity for our readers to question prominent Medway figures. This event covers higher education in Medway, provision of health services, potholes (of course!), and lots more.
Our panel for this event features:
Vince Maple, Labour Leader of Medway Council
George Perfect, Conservative Leader of the Opposition at Medway Council
Dalia Halpern, Chair of Trustees at Chatham Memorial Synagogue
Richard Morsley, Chief Executive of Chatham Historic Dockyard
It’s a good-natured and wide-ranging discussion of questions that were all submitted by the audience in the room. The audio quality isn’t perfect (Vince’s mic is a bit low, and the audience mic wasn’t recorded directly), but it is listenable. Unfortunately, the last couple of minutes are missing from the recording, presumably because we ran out of tape.
We’ll be holding another Medway Question Time event later this year.
Time stamps for finding individual discussions:
0:00 - Introduction
2:03 - What should the council be doing more of and what should it being doing less of?
22:13 - With increasing issues in higher education, do you have concerns about the sustainability of the higher education presence in Medway?
40:47 - Please can we have all the potholes fixed in Medway? / What strategies do you recommend for traversing Medway?
55:43 - Should Medway petition for a new hospital?
1:11:30 - Should a Kent mayor position become available, would you run for it?
1:12:20 - Does Medway need a food strategy?
1:22:44 - Does the panel agree with Arts Council England that Medway is a ‘cultural cold spot’?
