This week we are going to cover how little (spoilers!) we know about Medway’s alleyways as we look at another question asked during a Full Council meeting. This time we will be going all the way back to January 2022.

First, a reminder: In an effort to improve democratic oversight, Medway Council restricted public questions to 30 minutes with no opportunity for follow-up questions. So, when Bill McLennan asked a question to the Portfolio Holder for Planning, Economic Growth and Regulation - a certain Cllr Jane Chitty - it was of course prefaced with a mini-essay. But we’ll come back to that.

So, the main question:

“Can you please state Medway Council’s view or policy on the retention and protection of these important passages (alleyways) not simply for local residents but as a benefit to our natural environment, wildlife and wellbeing as a whole?”
