Rochester Cathedral should pay their cafe staff

Exciting news at Local Authority towers this week, where I found out that I’d been nominated for a Pride in Medway award for this newsletter. Pretty wild to me that this gets recognition alongside so many people doing incredible things, but here we are. Thank you so much to whoever nominated me. It really does mean a lot.
Cathedral doesn’t pay staff, consequences ensue
Maybe I’m being old fashioned, but I’ve always been of the belief that workers should be remunerated for their time and labour. It doesn’t feel like a particularly radical position to suggest that - for example - workers in the coffee shops and cafes in Rochester High Street should be paid for their services.
I’m happy to report that the vast majority of such establishments in Rochester do pay their staff, sometimes even fairly well.
There is at least one exception though. And it’s a big one.
